The Chalkboard...at last~

Remember my big bare kitchen wall? Pretty in this photo...but lacking something in reality?

Here's what it looks like today. My chalkboard is finally complete!

Want to see how it came to be? Check out the slideshow below! (Yeah, we're wearing Sunday clothes in these photos...the paint instructions say to wait three days after painting before seasoning the board...that made it Sunday...the kiddos were so excited, we set to work as soon as we walked in the door from church.)

Our finished chalkboard is very similar to this chalkboard found in the Pottery Barn catalog...but a lot less expensive.

Here's the cost breakdown on my version (prices are rounded up)...

  • 4'x4' underlayment (PB chalkboard is 3'x4') ..... $6
  • Chalkboard paint..................................................... free (had from previous project) but only costs about $12 per quart anyway.
  • 1 Quart Black Satin Paint....................................... $10
  • 1x3's.......................................................................... $12 (we had some on hand, but had to buy a little extra.)
  • wood glue.................................................................. free (already had)
  • nails............................................................................ $3

Grand total........................................................................... $31

Compared to PB's $149, I'd say that's a pretty good deal! And just the statement piece I was looking for in this space.

Thanks to the Hubby for helping me with this project!!

Have a great day~
