Cheery Lynn Dies

Today I want to show you how you can use your dies for something other than what they were designed to do.  I have used a Sunflower die to create something very different.  I always like to get as much use out of my products as possible so thought I would share this with you.

This is the Cheery Lynn Sunflower Die I used to create this purple flower.  Below is the card I created earlier using the same die to create a sunflower.

Here is how I created the purple and white card.  I started with a 5.5" square card.  A 6" piece of cardstock was used to created a border around the design.  I used the Martha Stewart Doulbe Arches punches for that.  For the embossed design in the background I used the Marianne embossing folder (DS0912).  I centered it in the middle of the 5.5" square.  There was a small portion of the sides that was not embossed so I used a Cuttlebug Dotted Swiss border embossing folder to emboss both sides. I have had this border for a long time and don't know if they are available, but you can ask Joan about it.  If they are available, she will be able to get them for you.   I really like how that extra embossed border created embossing over the entire  piece. A piece of purple cardstock was placed under the openings in the center embossed design.

To create the flower, I die cut 10 of the Cheery Lynn Sunflowers (DL121) out of white card stock.  Each layer was sponged with a large sponge dauber and lavender ink.  The flower was shaped using the large White Tool in the Flower Tool Kit.  For the stamen I punched two large and one small "Sky Flakes".  They were shaped and put in the center of the flower.  The small white flowers were created with the Medium and Small Daisy Punches.  The leafy design in the background is the Cheery Lynn "Tropical Flourish" (B127).  The large white leaves on the left side of the flower were die cut with one of the Cheery Lynn "Tropical Leaves" dies (B119).  The pretty heart up in the upper left corner is part of the "Heartland America Large" doily die (DL110).  I used two parts of one of the smaller hearts in this die cut design.  I love this heart and use it a lot to dress this type of card up.  After layering all the pieces on the embossed front, I went back and added "Lemon" Flower Soft to the center of all the flowers.   The final touch was to add a bunch of the Martha Stewart punched "branches".  Yes, it is sad, but that punch has been discontinued by Martha Stewart so I hope you already have one.  I love to use it as a filler for lots of my flower creations.  Below is a side view of this card so you can see all the layers in the flower.

All products used to create this card an be purchased from Joan's Gardens.
