A Thankful Tree and A Project Teaser~

Thanksgiving is one of my very favorite holidays. And I feel like it is often overlooked. I want my children to know the meaning behind the turkey and mashed potatoes. I want them to celebrate with a grateful heart. So today I wanted to share with you all a fun tradition that puts the focus on gratitude....the Thankful Tree.

Our family takes an evening at the beginning of the month of November to talk about what it means to be thankful. Then we write some of the things we are grateful for on leaves cut from cardstock and hang them from a "tree" made of branches collected in our backyard. (These pics are from last year, however, since our house is in the staged-to-sell mode.)

Just thought I'd share with you a couple of the things my little ones are thankful for...

Oh, yes, Mr. Two and Mr. Three are very grateful for Spongebob (and, to be honest, during the "witching" hour around dinner time, I am very grateful for Spongebob as well!)

Mr. One is grateful for hot cocoa on snowy days. And yes, I must admit, that is one thing I am very grateful for as well. Well, as long as I'm being honest, I'm grateful for hot chocolate pretty much any day. ;-)

And because I promised a project teaser...here's a photo of the "lovely" closet in our library. Any guesses what this is going to become? Hint: my pretty new pinboards will find a home here. I'll show you all next week.

Don't forget, tomorrow is the Frugal Friday Linky Party here at the Shabby Nest. For all of you night owls, MckLinky will go up tonight at 12:01 am EST. Can't wait to see what you all have up your sleeves this time!

Have a great Thursday~

Thankful Thursday~

Just a couple of fun things to be thankful for this Thursday before Thanksgiving...

1st...I'm thankful for clearance sales! Got these cute little pumpkin baskets at Michael's on clearance for 80% off. Woot woot!! Oh yeah...we're talking 39 cents each. I figured even in the midst of a financial crisis I could fork over 78 cents for these little cuties!

2nd...I'm grateful for the time I am able to spend blogging. (Even though I'm sure it's more than I should.) I'm grateful for this wonderful outlet for my creative energies. I'm grateful for all the wonderful ideas I get from the other amazing, creative bloggers out there. And I'm grateful for everyone who reads my blog and leaves me such friendly, encouraging comments! Keep 'em coming! They make my day!

Join me tomorrow for the next installment of Friendly Homes Friday! And hopefully (with any luck and some spare time), I'll be able to share the project I was hinting at yesterday!

Thankful Thursday~

For our family night this past Monday, the Hubby, the kiddos and I made a thankful tree. We wrote down the things that we are thankful for on construction paper "leaves" and then I tied them to the tree with raffia. Since I shared with you many of the "serious" things I am thankful for during last week's Thankful Thursday, this week I thought I'd share with you some of the things we wrote down that made me smile.

One is thankful for snowy days with hot cocoa (come to think of it, so am I...and isn't his handwriting so cute? )

Two is thankful for firemen, Thomas the train, and Spongebob Squarepants (I mean, who isn't?)

Three, well he is too little to tell us, but I think he is thankful for his binky (although it will be "going away" soon) and for his belly button which he likes to poke whenever I am changing him.

The Princess is thankful for water (I think it is neat that she thought of that) and Barbie.

I am thankful for icecream and a good decorating magazine.

And the Hubby, well everything that he wrote was serious, but I think I can safely say that he is grateful when all of his angels are tucked into bed at night ;-)

Happy Thankful Thursday~

Thankful Thursday (and a little teaser)...

Since it is the month of November, I thought it only fitting that I share some of the things for which I'm thankful. (See that? I re-wrote that sentence so it would have correct grammar...that's the editorial assistant in me coming out...doesn't happen that often...but I digress). So, I'm going to make the next few Thursdays, Thankful Thursdays at the Shabby Nest. (And in case you were wondering, that funny bird is supposed to be a turkey.)

Our family has this fun little chalkboard door by our back entrance, and we have been trying to write something on it daily for which we are thankful. The first thing we wrote is family. I am very thankful for my family. And I am exceptionally thankful for their good health. And in these trying times, I am also thankful that we have a roof over our heads and food in our tummies. And in light of the fact that election day was this past Tuesday, I am thankful that I live in this wonderful country where we have the opportunity to make our voices heard as we vote to choose our leader. More thankfulness next Thursday...

On to more frivolous stuff...

I have some projects on the horizon...can you guess what they might be?

Happy Thankful Thursday~
