New Delhi: DMK MP Kanimozhi, who is accused in the 2G spectrum scam, on Saturday said that she will prove her innocence in the case. Kanimozhi reached Chennai after over 190 days of arrest on Saturday.
Kanimozhi, accompanied by husband Aravindan and son Aditya, was received at the airport by her 87-year old father and DMK President M Karunanidhi and step brother MK Stalin among others. Kanimozhi's mother Rajathi Ammal, Karunanidhi's wife and Director of Kalaingar TV Dayalu Ammal, her daughter Selvi also welcomed her at the airport.
Hundreds of party cadres broke into celebrations beating drums and dancing as the DMK MP stepped out of the airport to join the family members after more than six months of incarceration.
This is Kanimozhi's first visit to the state since she was granted bail and released from jail in the 2G case.
"I am happy that people are getting bail, but more than the bail, I have to prove my innocence. I am sure I will do it", said the DMK MP before leaving New Delhi.
Kanimozhi was granted bail on Monday and released from Tihar Jail on Tuesday. She has been granted bail on the grounds that she is a woman and mother to a small child.
Karunanidhi had said on Monday that the party would organise a big welcome for her. "I am happy that Kanimozhi has been granted bail. She spoke to me soon after the court gave her bail and both of us shared the happiness," Karunanidhi, who met his daughter thrice in Tihar Jail, where she was lodged after her arrest on May 20, said in Chennai.
Kanimozhi will be in Chennai till December 6 and return to Delhi to attend the hearing of the 2G case.
