Max's Room - The Boy's Dream Bedroom

While work continues on the Girl's Dream Bedroom I thought I'd share the fact that Max has not completely gotten the short end of the stick. This is Max's bedroom from our previous home. All of the elements have traveled the entire three miles to his new room, though with less success. At some point I'll rework the room using these pieces, but until then...here it is as it once was.

First, the blue, brown and tan dresser, found while living in San Francisco. My husband came home from a walk to say he'd found a great dresser at a garage sale, "go look at it and tell me what you think". I did and quickly snatched it up. (Someone else was waiting in line for it if I passed). I loved the paint treatment, the shape and the price...$80. (Okay, don't gasp at the high price, that was a bargain for a San Francisco sale).

Next, the wall color. I wanted a paint that resembled the color of old parchment paper. The color is Devine Pecan from Devine Paint. Incidentally, I'm thrilled Gretchen of Devine Color selected this room to be included in her websites Room Gallery.

Then the lantern. Yes, it is an outdoor fixture, found at Lamps Plus for under $30. My vision for the room was a mixture of the old west meeting a world traveler with a tiny dose of a safari thrown in. This lantern reminded me of a hand lantern that might have been hung in a cabin, so it seemed to fit in.

Next headboards. There were found at Crate&Barrel and were chosen because of their black finish and old fashion styling.

The rug. I love kilim rugs, and this one was on sale at Pottery Barn. It fit the worn western aesthetic while bringing pattern into the room.

The splurge. I had to think about this purchase for awhile, tried to get the floor model, but no luck there. Finally I jumped in and bought the console from Pottery Barn. The length was perfect, serving as a night stand for both beds. The color was just right, the rustic finish added texture, its asian styling a world element and its storage was great for stashing away toys.

Bedding. Everything was found at Target, on clearance. Thank goodness after the console purchase. I made the striped pillows and added the zebra ones for the safari accent.

Lamps. Clearance at TJ Maxx, I think around $15 a piece. Originally the base was a neon yellow glass and the shades were beige. I painted the base brown and covered the shades with the red and tan striped fabric left over from the pillow project.

Drapes. Another clearance item, from Z Gallerie. I think the panels were under $15 a piece. The linen had a texture similar to burlap and the color worked beautifully with the walls and console.

Artwork. By a favorite artist, Jill Mayberg. These inexpensive prints of original paintings were framed in budget friendly Thomasville frames from Target.

Accessories. Random items from here and there. The fish were found years ago on a trip to Minnesota. The small globe piggy banks were once my Dad's, the wooden horse was from Target's World Market event, and the Stop Sign...again from my Dad, who swears he found it laying beside a road, abandoned, in Alaska. I'm taking his word for it.

So, there it is. It was a pretty grown up room for a little boy, but he loved it.
