First, all the white paraphernalia on the wall below has been bothering me, the chime box and a cover for the central vac system. (Plumbed but not installed.) Distracting.
(before)
When taking photos I've cropped these out of the images when possible, but it didn't make them go away in real life! Finally it occurred to me to just paint them. I can't tell you how thrilled I am with the result of this 5 minute project. Ah...no more white spots!
The length and height of this entryway has also challenged me...the console and art have never quite felt like they were filling up the space properly. After reading some of PK's posts on hanging art I was reminded of a wall I designed for a client, stacking several pieces of art one above the other reaching to the ceiling. I am taking baby steps and have added just one layer. Not certain if this is the right art, as you can see I tried two options. For now I have left the two framed photos here, my husband's preference of the two variations. What would be ideal is something with dimension and a shape other than a rectangle. A large round sunburst mirror or some sort of sculptural piece, (the deer head?) with an additional piece of art above that. But for now it is an improvement and I can ponder what is next. After hiring painters to paint this area I'm hesitant to put too many holes in the wall just yet!!
I also moved the slipper chair in from the family room, to make way for the Christmas Tree. I had been playing with the idea of adding seating here, but didn't think something this large would work. But I like it, and how it makes the entry SW Comfort Gray paint color look like a perfect choice. It will probably stay. The second slipper chair, currently in Isabella's room, can be moved down to the family room after the holidays. I will refinish another chair, currently waiting in the sidelines, for Isabella's room.
This is just what happens in this house. If we are not literally moving I am moving things from room to room. I have a theory, if you find pieces you absolutely love they will be able to work in a variety of different rooms over time.
Finally, to the actual entry corner with the SW Comfort Gray paint. I want to add a bit of interest to the walls. The idea is to repeat the shape from the fireplace wall "wallpaper" design in a random pattern to the little bit of wall space here. I mixed a bit of Rust-Oleum's Brushed Metallic paint into the SW Comfort Gray and painted a test. Very subtle, can you even see it? I painted the test where the San Francisco print hangs, just in case I didn't like it. But I do, just don't expect me to complete this painting project anytime soon!
Next, a few light fixture ideas to replace the entry fixture and chandelier hanging above the piano.
