A must have for this design was to bring in a pendant light fixture. After much debate this George Nelson Criss Cross pendant was selected and the electrician was called. Wiring for a ceiling fixture was not in place, so a junction box was installed and the client and I were on hand to make sure the fixture was hung not an inch too low or too high! I can't imagine the room without the light fixture here...the space would just feel empty. Find at www.hivemodern.com.
On this visit I also used painters tape to determine the right dimensions for a long canvas, to be placed above the width of the headboard. A custom sized canvas has been ordered and I'll talk about this project when it arrives.
Mixed in with the new pieces are often things that no longer belong in the room and the eye doesn't know what to make of it all. So, my advice (to this client and to anyone also working their way through the design of a room) is to take out everything that isn't going to be in the final design, if possible! This allows the new direction to be more evident, which should assist the decision making process for the remaining items needed to complete the room.
With this done the client and I then worked our way around the room, making a shopping list and discussing ideas about the best color/style/size for each item. A lot is left to do on this room, but decisions are being made and soon the clients can begin to enjoy the efforts!
Next time, dogs...
