Okay. Aside from this being a somewhat life changing moment, what does it have to do with design? Well, I was also going stir crazy and what does this mom do when cooped up in the house for nearly a week? I start shopping online!
Happily the 75% off clearance section of Pottery Barn's online store was well stocked. This pagoda bird house was available for an absolute steal. It was red, but naturally at some point I determined it needed to be another color. Now turquoise, it looks great sitting on the entry console.
Next, paint for these walls. It is the last large expanse of Sherwin-Williams 6142 Macadamia the home was originally painted. It is a nice warm color, but doesn't it look bland here? I'm considering Sherwin-Williams 6150 Universal Khaki, the color the kitchen is painted. It looks beautiful with Quiver Tan (the family room and living room color) as well as the latest addition, Comfort Gray.
However, here comes the domino effect...if the walls are painted the cooler Universal Khaki I suspect the rustic yellow on the console will clash. This piece was originally in Max's room at our previous home. His current room is too narrow for it to be placed between the two beds and so has been repurposed here.
When I mentioned to a friend that I was considering refinishing it the look on her face said it all. (You're Crazy.) The design direction for the house has been to bring a lighter, more sophisticated feel to a house that began with a heavy craftsman look. (See the original Kitchen & Family Room.) This console needs to fall in line. What do you think?
