Comfort Works: Great Day for a Giveaway~

Hello out there in blogland!! I am very excited to share a great company with you today!

Comfort Works is an Australian based company that makes custom slipcovers for IKEA sofas. I realize not everyone has an IKEA sofa, but never fear, Comfort Works also creates custom curtains, quilt covers and pillow covers! Yes, I said custom. But the great thing is that they are affordable as well.

Comfort Works contacted me a while back to see if I would be willing to review a slipcover for the Ektorp chair that is currently in my home office. Once I visited their website and saw all of the great fabric options, I was so excited, I jumped at the chance. Trouble is, there were so many great choices, I just wasn't sure what to do. No problem! They sent me a bunch of free swatches from my favorite fabrics so that I could make sure I was completely happy with my choice.

I ultimately settled on Elizabeth Green which was the perfect shade of aqua to go in my office. And once the slipcover arrived, I was amazed at the quality. The fabric was thick and soft, and completely washable. The slipcover went on like a dream. Overall, much nicer than the IKEA slipcover I had on the chair. Truly high quality for a great price. If your worried that the shipping from Australia might negate the affordable slipcover, you don't need to be. Just $25 flat rate shipping. Amazing, truly.

I really wish that the photos of my slipcover could do it justice. (That's what I get for having a home office in the basement - with no windows might I add.) But, trust me, it's lovely. And it's so nice to have an option besides the plain white cover I already had.

And today, you're in luck, because the good people at Comfort Works are offering $50 to one reader of the Shabby Nest to spend on anything Comfort Works has to offer. That means if you don't happen to have an IKEA sofa, you could spend it on a quilt cover, or curtains or a pillow cover.

So what are you waiting for? To enter simply leave a comment on this post. You can tweet, Facebook or blog about this giveaway for additional entries, but each entry must have it's own comment to be valid. Giveaway open until Friday, April 15 at 11:59 pm MST.

The legal stuff: I was provided with a slipcover in exchange for this product review. However, all opinions expressed in this review are entirely mine.

Good luck~

Wow.

Being that Miss Mustard Seed hasn't yet booked her flight into farmer jacket BC Canada quite yet to sew for poor me, guess I'll have to figure out something fancy for these two wing chairs myself.

And drink all that diet Pepsi I bought her. Her loss I say. :)

Then again there's the ever popular 'deconstructed' chair look I found over at Peace Love Sweater.

Don't even tempt me, Catherine! :)

Am I crazy for loving that?  Should I rip up a chair and see where it takes me?!?

Don't you DARE dare me now...  my son would totally move out once and for all. He's still not jiving with the rust. :)

Got some lovely slip covered projects to show?

Help a girl out and link them up in this weekend's 3rd themed linkup!

The Amazing Transforming Sofa~

This is how my living room normally looks. Note the sofa. Tan slipcover. Very non-confrontational. But also, just a little....um...dull. Don't get me wrong. The tan is a nice supporting color. It goes well with almost any other color I throw at it. It. hides. dirt.

But the other day, my little boys (aka The Toddler Demolition Team) decided to draw on the couch. With marker. Washable marker, luckily. But we happened to have a showing scheduled for the next day. Not enough time to wash the slipcovers and let them dry.

White slipcovers to the rescue. We used these white slipcovers in our former house when the sofa was in a lower traffic area. I love them. I repeat. I love them. It was like breathing fresh air into the house when I slipped them on. Of course, I don't think the color scheme in this house lends itself well to the white, but I enjoyed piling all of my pale pillows on both the sofa and the big cushy chair.

I'm thinking in our next house, I'll try to use the white again.

Slipcover Love~

If you're dropping by for the first time from Do-It-Yourself day at Kimba's place, welcome! Hope you'll take a minute to look around the Shabby Nest. So glad to have you here.

Some of you may remember this sweet little curbside find that I brought home a few months back. Cute, but lacking a certain something. I had plans to slipcover this baby, but I was having a hard time deciding what fabric to use.

Then I had one of those lightbulb moments. When I was making the drop cloth curtains for my dining room, one of the cloths I purchased had a seam running through the fabric about 18" into one end. Rather than returning it, I kept it knowing that I would come up with a use for it. Then it dawned on me...a slipcover for my little chair!
My cute friend Trisha (who happens to be an awesome seamstress) came over on Friday and we set to work. Luckily, the chair has fairly straight lines, so although she guided me, she let me do a lot - not all - of the work. Below is the only in-the-process photo I took (Helllllllo? Do I have a decor blog or what? Where was my brain?)

And here she is in all her glory! I had to add a little extra stuffing to the cushion, then I popped my #4 pillow - available in my Etsy store- on the back...and it is the perfect finishing touch for my boys' reading nook. Oh what a little slipcover can do! Thanks Trisha for all your help!

Have a great Monday~
