Today I'm At Haven & Home

Today I'm participating in a series called 'Love The One You're With', at Marianne's blog Haven and Home.

This is a series about what people love in their homes. With so much focus being on what we have left to do or what we would wish to change, it's nice to be reminded to take the time to enjoy what we love about our homes as well.

And what room I have chosen? Stop on over to Marianne's blog to see.

Today I'm At 320 Sycamore

Today I'm at Melissa's fabulous blog, 320 Sycamore. I first found her blog one day when my referring URL showed a very large number of visits from coming from a blog I was unfamiliar with. I hopped over to see what was going on (she had featured a project of mine), and I've enjoyed reading her blog ever since!

I'm participating in her series, "Some Things I've Learned About Being a Mom", in celebration of Mother's Day! I had fun thinking about what I wanted to write in this post, looking back over the last 10 years since becoming a mother. I hope you'll visit 320 Sycamore here.

Thanks Max & Isabella, for giving me the role of  "Mom"!

Which reminds me, I need to finalize plans for how I will be thanking my Mother this coming Sunday!
What are your plans?

This Week I'm A Judge...How Fun!!

This week I'm excited to be trying out a new role, that of judge for this week's challenge at the fabulous blog The CSI Project, a haven for DIY lovers! And what is the topic of this week's challenge? Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

As the judge of this week's challenge I will review each project Friday afternoon, visiting each site, making a top 10 list of my favorites, plus one top winner. I'm really looking forward to seeing what projects have been submitted, as well as being introduced to new blogs!

If you have a project you would like to share, make sure to stop on over to The CSI Project now and submit your project that incorporate this week's challenge of reducing, reusing and recycling!

Poppies At Play Parade Of Homes

Today I'm participating in the Parade of Homes tour sponsored by Andrea from the blog Poppies At Play!

My home is number 17 on the tour...

...and let me begin by saying it has been so much fun to review these photos and see how much has been accomplished since moving in not quite three years ago! Our family feels blessed to live here and I have gotten a lot of joy from the process of turning this house into a home that reflects each of us. Yes, I've gradually learned to listen to my family's design wishes as well as my own!

{before}

The first major project that I tackled was our family room and adjoining kitchen.

{after}

The project included extending the hardwood flooring, removing the original mantel and tile and working with a craftsman to design a mantel better suited to the scale of the room. Then everything was painted, gotta love the power of paint! To see all the details of this redesign click here.

{before}

{after}

Again, the miracle of paint! Our kitchen was transformed into a space I'm thrilled with by painting the cabinetry, island, walls and replacing the backsplash. To see all the steps taken in this redesign visit these posts.

{before}

Then it was on to Isabella's room. We had a lot of fun working on this room together over one summer.

{after}

This room design included a very long list of DIY projects which transformed it from blah to a girl's dream bedroom. All the details and tutorials can be seen in these posts.

{before}

Then the big man of the house requested his space be next! So the home office stopped being a room to store random items of home decor until they could find their spot in the house, to a space where my husband enjoys catching up on reading and a bit of work.

{after}

His favorite parts of the room are the chalkboard/art wall featuring his prints and photographs, and the repurposed Hoosier cabinet that once sat in my grandfather's wood shop. To see details on the projects and items used in this design click here.

{before}

By this point someone in the house was a little out of joint. "When is it time for MY ROOM?!" That would be Max. He had a lot of ideas for his room and I began by interviewing him about his likes and dislikes. He had a lot to say, and interestingly, reading the interview and looking at the final result, his wishes came true!

{after}

To read my interview with Max, as well as the details and DIY projects that went into this room, click here.

Then it was on to the master bedroom. This design began with the upholstered wall project I did for an HGTV.com tutorial and the rest of the room flowed from there, again through a long list of DIY projects. To see the entire lineup visit these posts.

{after}

And to make a full circle, we're back to one of the first rooms I worked on after moving into the house, and it remains one of my favorites! The master bathroom.

{after}

Can you guess, lots of DIY projects here too! For details read these posts...and that is the end of my tour.

Next up on the Parade of Homes tour is a fabulous blog I recently found, In My Own Style, written by Diane. Please make sure to visit her blog and check out her recent DIY drapery hardware post...brilliant!

If you’d like to see a full list of the participants, you can find them here. And as a bonus, visit Poppies at Play on Saturday for a house tour link-up!

Where I'm At Today...

Today I'm being interviewed by Pauline of The English Organizer, who is one of the contributors for the first issue of House of Fifty. Now if she could just stop by my house to help me organize a few problem areas, starting with the garage, I'd be even happier! Check out the post and her blog full of helpful tips here.

I'm also participating in a series at Kristen's blog, 6th Street Design School...

...called 'Confessions of a Designer'.

Visit Kristen's stylish blog here to read the series.

And now I'm off to get some more work done on the dining room bench. Progress is being made and I hope to have more to show on that project tomorrow.

Today I'm At 'Hi Sugarplum!'

Today I'm at the blog 'Hi Sugarplum', written by Cassie. I have really enjoyed getting to know Cassie since discovering her blog this past year, when I read about her Kitchen Remodel on another blog. She did an impressive job!

Check out Cassie's blog and my guest post here, where I talk about the tradition that starts my family's holiday season, the favorite project of 2010 and which post I was most surprised by its popularity.

Also, stop back by tomorrow to see a last minute gift idea I've been working on...

Today I'm Also At 'Living Livelier'!

Today I'm also at the wonderful blog 'Living Livelier', participating in Becky and Deb's Virtual Holiday House Tour series. I had the pleasure of meeting both of these women this past Fall during my trip to NYC. What a great pair these ladies are, and what a fun trip! Not only did I have the surreal experience of taping a segment with Nate Berkus, but meeting so many of my favorite bloggers was truly a highlight of the year.

Check out my Holiday Tour here, and a recap of my trip to NYC here!

Visiting 'A Thoughtful Place' And 'Style Your Life'...Where I've Been This Week!

This past Tuesday I was a guest blogger at Courtney's blog {a thoughtful place}, joining in on her 'Holiday Haven' series.

Don't we all need a Holiday Haven? Stop over to read where I try to go each holiday to get a break from the chaos this season can bring. To read all the Holiday Haven posts, written by a great group of bloggers, click here.

I was also recently featured on Style Your Life, a blog written by the talented stylist and personal shopper named Jennifer. Look at the outfit she put together for me...oh how I wish I were wearing these pieces today. Super comfortable, yet chic and feminine. I love the saturated color mixed with the favorite go to color in my wardrobe: gray!
Finally, if you have not done so yet, enter the Kassapanola Pillow Giveaway, celebrating the launch of this new Etsy shop. The giveaway runs through next Tuesday, when two winners will be selected. And if a pillow would make a perfect gift, Isabella & Max readers are invited to use the promotion code IMBLOG at check to receive 10% off the entire order.

And now I'm off to continue preparations for our party this weekend, more on that tomorrow...
