Danika Herrick, of Gorgeous Shiny Things, is working on a remarkable project for a client that has me wondering where on earth I can attempt something similar!
"My client Shauna (who is off the wall awesome to work with, and hits the thrift shops harder than anyone I know) wanted to do something on the wall behind her banquette in her dining area. We had talked wallpaper or stencils but we need lots of color to pull it all together. She loved her dragon and we decided to feed it massively illegal doses of steroids."

"So here is how we super-sized. Shauna drew a 1 x 1 foot grid lightly on the wall. I took a picture of the segment of the Schumacher Chiang Mai Dragon we wanted to used and drew a grid over it to match the one on the wall. We then drew it in block by block. Another option would be to use an enlarging projector, but we were working in daylight so that was out."
"Then we painted and painted for four days. It's not a quick project by any means. This one also used 16 different colors, many that require two coats. If I were smarter I would have painted this on canvas and had it installed like wallpaper. I could have painted at my leisure and wouldn't have had to work around sitters. But Shauna was great to work with, and it's rare to have a hands on client like her. It helped a ton, because I'd come back the next day and she would have sketched more in or second coated areas."
This is a "mock up" of the soon to be finished room. The bench is out to be reupholstered, the mirror resting on it's back will be hung and a rustic farm table will be added to the mix. Simply fabulous...I'll be watching for the reveal! Will you?!
